Healing Process & Touch-Up Guidelines for Permanent Makeup (PMU)
(Brows, Lips, Eyeliner, Nano, Ombre Powder, Lip Blush, etc.)

1. Healing Stages
Every skin type heals differently, but most clients will experience the following stages:
Day 1–3:
-
The color appears 20–40% darker than the final result.
-
Mild redness or slight swelling (especially for lips and eyeliner).
-
The treated area may feel tight — this is normal.
Day 4–7:
-
The skin starts to dry and flake off naturally.
-
Do NOT pick or peel.
-
Allow the skin to shed on its own.
Day 7–14:
-
The color may look lighter or faded (the “ghosting stage”).
-
This is completely normal as the pigment settles underneath the skin.
Day 14–30:
-
The color slowly returns and becomes more visible.
-
Overall shape and definition continue to improve.
Day 30–45:
-
You can now see 70–90% of the true healed result.
-
This is the ideal time to evaluate whether a touch-up is needed.
2. When Is a Touch-Up Needed?
A touch-up is recommended for most clients to:
-
Perfect the color and evenness.
-
Adjust the intensity or definition.
-
Fill areas that didn’t retain pigment well.
-
Ensure long-lasting, polished results.
A proper touch-up helps your PMU last 12–24 months.
3. Ideal Touch-Up Timing for Each Service
✨ Brows (Ombre, Microblading, Nano, Combo)
-
First touch-up: 6–8 weeks after the initial session
-
Color Boost / Annual Touch-Up: 12–18 months
✨ Lip Blush
-
First touch-up: 6–8 weeks after the initial session
-
Color Refresh: 12–24 months depending on skin type
✨ Eyeliner (Lash Line, Basic, Shaded, Smoky)
-
First touch-up: 6–8 weeks
-
Refresh: 12–24 months
4. Why You Must Wait at Least 6–8 Weeks Before Touch-Up
-
The skin needs enough time to fully heal and regenerate.
-
Pigment must stabilize to identify which areas need to be adjusted.
-
Touching up too early can damage the skin, cause bleeding, or lead to poor pigment retention.
5. Full Healing Time
-
Brows: 4–6 weeks
-
Lips: 6–8 weeks
-
Eyeliner: 4–6 weeks
